By installing a powerful 48V starter generator and battery (secondary battery), the energy regenerated during braking is stored in the battery as electricity. The 48V starter-generator acts like an electric drive unit assisting the engine, keeping it as efficient as possible. Meanwhile, the electric overboost function enables dynamic performance when accelerating at full throttle.
In addition, the 48V starter generator can automatically stop and restart the engine. The advantage is that the engine can be stopped with less vibration and can be restarted more smoothly. This allows the engine to be completely shut off in coast mode at low loads, such as when driving on the highway, without disconnecting the engine from the drivetrain.

The 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder gasoline turbo engine has been specially tuned by M Performance Automobile. As a result, in the case of the European specification, the maximum output is 374hp/5500~6500rpm and the maximum torque is 51kgm/1900~5000rpm.
The transmission is an 8-speed AT “Steptronic Sport” and the drive system is 4WD “xDrive”. The M440i xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a maximum speed limit of 250km/h.
It is also equipped with "M sports brakes" and 18-inch M aluminum wheels with 245/45R18 size tires. The "M Sports Differential" uses an electronically controlled continuously variable locking function integrated into the rear differential to improve traction and cornering performance. In addition, the active differential lock function has the effect of enhancing driving stability and agility.
The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system also limits the differential between the inside and outside rear wheels during cornering, optimizing power transmission in all driving situations. A differential locking function generated by the electric motor allows driving torque of up to 1500Nm to be transferred from the faster spinning wheel to the slower spinning wheel.
For example, when driving around curves at high speed, a tendency to understeer may occur. For that reason, the driving force that cannot be transmitted to the road surface of the wheel on the inside of the curve, which has lost grip and is spinning, is intentionally distributed to the wheel on the outside of the curve instead of activating the brakes to disable it. . This allows the vehicle to enter curves dynamically and utilize drive torque for sporty driving.
Suspension is a double-joint spring strut at the front and a 5-link at the rear. For the damper, the firmness of the stepless variable damper is progressively adjusted according to the spring stroke.
